The checkered flag has waved at Albert Park this weekend, marking the start of the exclusive Tequila Don Julio 1942 after-race celebration at Marmont, Crown Melbourne on Sunday, 16th March. Against the backdrop of the iconic Yarra River, the ‘Don Julio 1942 After Race Party’ transformed the venue for a sophisticated, Southern Californian-style gathering that ensured an unforgettable race-day experience.
The latest addition to the Crown collection, Marmont, embodies the LA-inspired vision of globally renowned music producer Grant Smillie. This chic venue was the ultimate destination to experience the vibrant energy that took over Melbourne last week as the city’s south side came to life for a fast start to March. The semi-alfresco cultural hub, renowned for seamlessly blending music, atmosphere and cuisine, perfectly encapsulates the essence of a festive southern experience, partnering with Don Julio’s ultra luxe Tequila, featuring the premium 1942 and Ultima Reserva Tequila.
Melanie C hit the decks for a one-time performance during her trip to Melbourne. Coming to life from 6pm, the venue saw the stars of Australia’s entertainment industry gather to celebrate the number one moment in Melbourne’s cultural calendar.
On her return to Australia, the former Spice Girl said: "I’m so excited for another chance to perform in Australia, especially in Melbourne. This city brings such great energy, and as an entertainer, it’s an incredible experience to be a part of that.
“I’m thrilled to have joined Don Julio 1942 at Crown Marmont tonight and round out such a huge weekend of sport and entertainment in Melbourne. This is what it’s all about!”
Other high-profile guests of the evening included Josh Heuston, Baker Boy, Illy, Anna Paul, Lana Wilkinson, Bec Judd, Jessie & Marc Murphy, Sam & Snezana Wood, Unice Abwoyo, Curtis Stone, Joey Scandizzo, Brooke Pitt and Anna Robards.
Guests of the party were treated to a premium cultural experience led by homegrown Melbourne DJ Set, Cut Copy.
The Don Julio team, in partnership with Marmont, has crafted an exquisite selection of indulgent menu offerings, including an exclusive, one-time-only 1942 cake pop. This decadent treat features a lavish pour of Don Julio 1942 in its rich ganache, elevating the experience to a truly exceptional level.
Located on Southbank’s Riverwalk, the breezy indoor-outdoor Marmont venue infused its Californian flair to create the ultimate cultural experience for Tequila connoisseurs, beautifully reflecting both the refined elegance and rustic origins of the Don Julio legacy.
The event marks a significant evolution for the heritage 1942 Tequila, as Don Julio unveiled its new 50ml bottles, part of a series of small serves - perfect for toasting life’s smaller celebrations.
Jonathan Morgan, Marketing Director at Diageo, said: “We love bringing people together to celebrate, and after-party vibes have been missing from the Grand Prix for a while, so we’re stoked to bring it back in true Don Julio style! With the buzz in the air and summer sunsets still to enjoy, we’re set for an unforgettable night at Marmont. It’s going to be a blast—great tequila, amazing energy, and the perfect chance to raise a glass of our finest 1942 to one of Australia’s biggest sporting events!”
Grant Smillie, Managing Partner of Marmont, shared his excitement at the opportunity to raise Melbourne’s profile as a global cultural leader: “Melbourne is known for hosting some of Australia’s best events, and this weekend has been no different as the city came to life on the world stage. We jumped at the chance to bring to life this event with Don Julio 1942, keeping summer alive with the ultimate world-class after-party.”
